London is only for the rich. The clever thing was creating the border cities. Cities just outside the border with fast routes directly to the heart of the city. The border cities came before the referendum. They were called service towns then. Life was fine in the service towns. Fine if not as good as the minidocs made out it would be. Nothing ever is. Everyone knows that. Service towns were fine because of the jobs. Border guards. Street sweepers. Delivery men. Warehouses. They did not plan that. It was just how it was. After the death of the high street. The next step was obvious. Service went out of London.
There was a lot of money in London after they changed the tax laws. After the first referendum. They wanted to attract money to London. They got it. Perhaps too much money. It shifted the class boundaries from those with a country pile to those with a London estate. Then they had the second referendum. They sold it well. They had a good marketing team with a strong understanding of the intricacies of the best algorithms. Their AI was simply better than the unionists’. In London they said a no vote would collapse the house prices. In the service towns they said a yes vote would be a vote for jobs. Up north it would be a vote for the northern powerhouse. It was the only way to save the NHS. Everyone got that message. An independent Scotland had made life in England better. An independent London would do that too.
And they won. Two percent is enough.
