Hank was watching from the second floor window when she arrived at Tinsley House. He watched all five people come out of the minibus. He watched her closely. He recognised her. Two weeks before he had signed her into the country. He had watched her sex tape.
He watched it again.
He went down to the processing room. She was not there. She was in a cell awaiting papers. Hank liked to watch. He would watch for his chance.
He stood at the coffee station. Flicked through the list. He fetched Mhairi. He led her to an interview room.
Well now then Hank. How are you. (Mhairi)
Number three today Mhairi. We have to stop meeting like this. (Hank)
Oh. I like that one. (Mhairi)
Did they let you keep it this time. (Hank)
No. But you know Koen. He will send me a parcel. (Mhairi)
You know you can just call him. Message him. Request the bratwurst. (Hank)
Blutwurst. You know I can not do that. (Mhairi)
I have to fine you. Every time you go in I have to fine you. (Hank)
You must not worry about me. (Mhairi)
Muir could do it for you. (Hank)
I do not want him getting his hands on my blutwurst. And you know how busy he is. (Mhairi)
Well. You can go now. Remember to pay the fine. (Hank)
I will do. I know my way out. Thank you for asking. (Mhairi)
Hank held open the door for her. He watched her walk slowly to the exit. The exit opened in front of her. A young man held open the door for her. Hank watched the young man look about unsure what to do. Hank suddenly walks briskly to the young man.
Hi. You must be bringing the au pair her things. (Hank)
Yes. Can I give them to you. (ATS Agency B13)
Yes. I can take them. I will process her. (Hank)
Thank you. (ATS Agency B13)
Simon held out his Skroll to Hank. Hank took out his. They tapped. Simon left. Hank watched him leave like a rat slinking back to his London job. A job Londoners pretended did not exist.
Hank opened the bag. An iPass. Some clothes. He slipped the iPass into his pocket. He returned to the waiting room. He slowly processed the people sitting in the waiting room.
