087 :: An empty bench
Peter checked his Skroll. Naomi had not moved. Still at the river near the gym. Peter dressed quickly. Jeans. Tee. Ehhlies. Nothing underneath. He grabbed his drive wheel bag. He left.
He walked along the road. He did not use the drivewheel. He took his tile like he was out on a Sunday morning stroll. He stopped when he got the the gym corner. The bench was empty. He checked his Skro The Skrll indicated she was there . He walked to the bench. Slowly. Confused. Three meters from the bench he saw it. Her Skroll. On the bench.
Peter sat on the bench. He picked up the Skroll. He opened it. The screen opeend to him. Nothing on the screen. No note. No sign. No to do list.
Peter tilted his head back. Looked at the sky. Watched the river flow.
Peter started examining the Skroll. He looked for what she had done. That morning. Nothing. He clicked to blue screen. Looked for deleted files. He knew his way about XTP. He looked for shadows of files. Proof that something had been erased. Unusual end data points. Peter found nothing. Empty space. Blank canvas. She shadows had been filled with shite noise. Either Naomi had done nothing since he last saw her or whoever deleted the files was good. Well, better than him anyway.
There was not even a record of him asking her what she was doing in the night. He opened his Skroll. Checked his night sleep. His Skroll showed Naomi had woken and dressed and left the house. No record of him asking what she was doing. He flicked to XTP. No shadows on his Skoll. But that was easy. Just replace the conversation with the record of Naomi leaving. It just had to splice to the same size. Even he could do that. He had once. To play a trick on Tiv.
He closed his Skroll. He hibernated Naomi’s Skroll. He stared at the river. Naomi was not coming back. He would have to be careful now.
Peter collected the shopping on his shopping list before he went home.
