Join the Dots

StoryDots are short paragraphs pulled together in a story. The story can be continued by anyone in any direction which readers can like or dislike.

This is the first stage of testing.

Are your cards a meditation or a prediction. Do the cards know your fate, do they predict your fate, or do they set your fate. Is the reading the direction of the future or an insight into the future. How well do you know your cards, is it an intuition or an understanding. And are any of your answers less valid if I disagree with them.

I would like to make a pack of cards based on the meanings behind a the old wisdom of the tarot.

The nude, so prevalent through art history, concentrated on the female form, the naked woman but I have found many of the nude figures I want to sketch are older male forms, not a vision of beauty but the beauty of vision.

I have enjoyed working with the emotions I found in Plutchik, but there are so many more so I have wandered about and found an emotions wheel which I will be working from to expand my series substantially.

Welcome to the house of masks, an exploration of hedonism and failure through the retelling of some of the oldest and most enduring tales of all time. We recognise that hedonism and failure has been the key to the creation and destruction of art and society, and through the prism of hedonism and failure we seek nothing more than to explore and possibly to provoke. We do not claim wisdom or even insight but perhaps you will tarry a moment. Here you will find the enacted, retold tales along with the throughts and notes and, perhaps, insight into the players and actors.

For a few years I have been doing a #thedailysketch - drawing a simple picture daily that can be found in the galleries on this site as well as on social networks linked below with the name @julesartvan :: this part of the site is my workshop of ideas, it is as chaotic as my mind.

Like all artists I am attracted to other people's art. I love the use of images and image on social media and the democratisation of art through social media. And, of course, my response is to create quick disposable art and to do so in the form reflecting the use of the phone as a source but in traditional media of watercolour, ink or acrylic on paper.

Social media anonymises the artist through the reuse and reuse of art in posts and reposts particularly in emotive and motivational messages. And so you will only find works of art I have created not myself. I am not here, only my ideas are.

Storytelling is the most wonderful of thing. Communicating through naratives that change our future by presenting our past and pasts so we can hold onto the vision of being better individuals.

I hope in my own little way I can one day contribute to the storytelling that is our past and our future.

Another year to set on fire, another fifty2 weeks of reporting to go, with ai and conflict and free free speech, and migration and injustice and really bad things, reported and photographed and collared here for you

It is impossible to create a work of art that is not influenced by other people's art. What is important is the honesty in the conversation, what is important is not to pass other people's art as your own because you are not able to do it better, or cannot be bothered to do the work.

I am influenced by the use of images online, particularly in social media. These artworks are inspired by searching for images based on text or AI, reclaiming the original artwork from AI

A new jumble of words trying to prove I have stuck to the new year resolutions I have renewed this year, which are mostly the same as the resolution me ade a year ago today. This year I will endeavour to keep more of my intended resolutions, and I will attempt to do it in a better humour than last, a humour that understands the things I cannot change.
